One of the top questions we are asked by new and potential clients is “Will our website be search engine friendly?”. Our answer is always a big YES, however it takes more than just a search engine friendly site to get to the top of the search engine rankings! To get to the top, you need to add lots of relevant, descriptive, targetted content and you need to optimise your content for the search engines (SEO).
Search engines love (new) content
When you register your site with the various search engines, they will visit your site to see what it’s all about. If you update your site regularly, they will come back more often and will assign greater importance to new (current) content.
Content is only half the battle
You need to be sure that the search engines fully understand what your content is about. If you are in the retail business, you really shouldn’t feature in search results for phrases like “stock market” – while you may operate a market, which has new stock. This is where Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) comes in. SEO is the practice of improving your sites visibility in search engine results. The goal is to move your site higher up the rankings in organic search (non paid), resulting in more targetted, relevant traffic to your site.
Measure for success
You have to know where you are before you can move forward! Every business needs to measure the amount and quality of traffic visiting their site. We recommend using Google Analytics – it is very comprehensive (overwhelmingly so, to start with) and it gives you a near instant overview of where you are.
